Club member George Cubiss, Canada’s National, Provincial, District and Club Head Umpire has a busy year ahead of him. Unfortunately, over the last two years, Covid has had an impact on all sports, including Lawn Bowling, and the Province has lost 30 umpires due a number of different reasons. In May George is hosting Level 1 Umpire Training Courses at New Westminster, Juan De Fuca, Kamloops, and Penticton and hopefully these courses will increase the numbers. In August he takes charge of the National Men and Women’s Fours, Pairs and Singles in Burlington, Ontario. Following this in September he takes charge of the National Senior Men and Women’s Triples hosted by the Victoria LBC on Vancouver Island. He is also on hand to host Rules Clinics, Measuring Clinics and Marker Clinics for the clubs within the Vancouver and District and with the help a supporting wife, he still finds time to enjoy his bowling.
